Aims: The complexities of modern life cause various problems in people, one of which is depression. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between spiritual well-being and depression with the moderating role of the practicing religious beliefs. Instruments and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, which was conducted in 2018, 205 male and female students of Shahid Chamran University were selected by convenience sampling and responded to questionnaires of spiritual well-being questionnaire, inventory practicing religious beliefs questionnaire (temple), and Beck depression inventory (short form). Data analysis was performed by SPSS 21 software, using Pearson correlation tests and hierarchical regression analysis. Findings: There was a significant negative correlation between the practicing religious beliefs and their sub-components and spiritual well-being with depression (p<0.01). The interaction of spiritual well-being and practicing religious beliefs and its components (personal, collective, practical, and religious) significantly increased the variance of depression (p<0.05). Conclusion: Practicing religious beliefs in the relationship between spiritual well-being and depression in students has a moderating role and increases the severity of the relationship between spiritual well-being and depression.
