Strategies for promoting health through prevention and combating the use of illicit drugs in sports

Abstract

Background: The present study aims to identify health development strategies with an approach to preventing the use of illicit drugs in sports.

Methods and Materials : The statistical population of this study was all people familiar with illicit drugs, such as: coaches, athletes, club owners, doctors, marketers, journalists, and university professors. The participants of this study were selected from among the experts by judgment and some of them by snowball sampling. This study was conducted using the data-driven method (Glaiser style). In this method, data were collected through interviews with experts and knowledgeable people in the field of sports and health, as well as interviews with users of illicit drugs and reviewing related documents and documents. Then, the data were analyzed using open, axial, and final coding methods. All steps were performed in the MaxQuda software environment, version 2018.

Results: The results showed that: current knowledge, social participation, non-governmental organizations, social discourse against drug use, life skills, healthy lifestyle, media policies, synergy between systems, social actors, education from an early age (childhood, etc.), alternative programs, counseling services, easy access, demographic variables, individual differences, friends and peers, identification, and textbook teachings can all be effective in preventing the use of illegal drugs in sports

Conclusion: the result of implementing appropriate policies by government and non-government organizations, families, and other sectors of society in this field can play an important role in developing public health.
