Predicting emotional divorce based on emotional-verbal controlling and cognitive errors of couples

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the current research was to determine the contribution and role of predicting emotional divorce based on emotional-verbal controlling and cognitive errors in couples.
Materials and methods: Research in terms of applied goal, In terms of nature, based on the quantitative paradigm and in terms of data collection, it is descriptive-survey. The statistical population of the research included all the couples of Ahvaz city in 2022, using the multi-stage cluster sampling method, 155 couples were selected who met the criteria for entering the study. In order to collect data, Amini et al.'s marital controlling scale, Pourhossein and Bidast's emotional divorce, and Kamrani et al.'s couples' beliefs and thoughts Scale were used. The data were analyzed with the help of SPSS-21 statistical software and using Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis.
Finding: The findings indicated that there was a positive and significant relationship between emotional-verbal controlling (r-0.623) and couples' cognitive errors (r-0.557) with emotional divorce. The results of the coefficient of determination showed that a proportion of the variance of emotional divorce explained by verbal- emotional controlling and cognitive errors is approximately 42%. In addition, the results obtained from the regression analysis showed that emotional-verbal controlling (β -0.268) and couples' cognitive errors (β -0.235) are positive and significant predictors of emotional divorce.
Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed the role of restraint in shaping incompatible relationships between couples and the place of cognitive processing style based on distortion of reality in the continuation of marital conflicts and emotional divorce. Using therapeutic methods to reduce inhibition and cognitive errors with the aim of reducing emotional divorce can enrich and improve the health of couples' relationships.
