Abstract
Introduction: Islamic beliefs will be a guide for a satisfied and stable marriage. For Islam, the stability of marriage and its sublimity and excellence are of great importance. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of developing an educational package to enriching married life based on Islamic beliefs and to evaluate its effectiveness on marital adjustment of couples.
Methods: In this quasi-experimental study using the design of experimental and control groups with pre-test-post-test, among couples referring to two counseling centers in Tehran, 40 couples (80 volunteers) by purposive sampling were selected and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was trained in pairs in 12 face-to-face sessions, 12 absentee sessions and 3 one-day training camps and research data were collected using the Locke-Wallace marital adjustment scale and analyzed using nonparametric Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests.
Results: The results show that after marital life enrichment training based on Islamic beliefs, the difference in marital adjustment score in the experimental group was significant but in the control group was not significant (P <0.05). In fact, this training package had a greater effect on increasing the marital adjustment of couples in the experimental group than the control group, and training was significantly effective on marital adjustment. Follow-up test also showed that the effect of this training was lasting.
Conclusion: The results of this study confirm the effect of marital life enrichment training based on Islamic beliefs in increasing couples’ adjustment.
