Abstract
Aims Despite the progress of societies in the present age, class inequality and poverty are still a major challenge for many people around the world. The aim of this study was to explain Islamic lifestyle and mental health among student based on family socioeconomic Status. Instruments & Methods In this descriptive-correlational study, among male and female students of Iran University of Medical Sciences, in 2019-2020, 180 students were selected, using multistage cluster sampling method. The data were collected by Islamic Lifestyle (ILST), General Health (GHQ-28) and Family Socioeconomic Status (SES) Questionnaires. Data analysis was performed, using the Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis (stepwise) by SPSS 24. Findings There was a negative significant relationship between income and educational level with Islamic lifestyle (P<0.01) and between family type of job and Islamic lifestyle (P<0.05), but there wasn’t significant relationship between family density and Islamic lifestyle (P>0.05). On the other hand, there was a significant positive relationship between income, educational level and type of job with students' mental health (P<0.01), but a significant negative relationship was observed between family density and students' mental health (P<0.05). Also, among the dimensions of family socioeconomic status, income was able to predict Islamic lifestyle and income and type of job were able to predict students' mental health (P<0.0001). Conclusion Income and type of job can predict Islamic lifestyle and mental health of students.
