Abstract
Purpose: Iranian religious intellectuals pay special attention to a number of issues, one of which is the issue of "human expectation of religion." An issue that can also be discussed in the realm of philosophy of religion. Mustafa Malekian is one of such religious intellectuals who has not only spoken under the same title, but also a significant part of his reflections on this issue. Accordingly, the main purpose of this study is to examine his approach to the discussion of "human expectation from religion".
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive and documentary study, the aim was to assess the degree of consistency and internal coherence of his views. Since Malekian is influenced by a wide range of Western intellectual currents (especially existentialism, the Western mystical tradition, and the analytical tradition) and has basically formulated his views on the influence of the religious reform movement, he first discusses the history of debate among Western and Iranian thinkers. Then the philosophical foundations of the property are stated. However, since Mostafa Malekian has expressed his views on this subject in various works, including books, articles and lectures, extracting his comprehensive view on this subject was important and fundamental. Of course, the scattering of his views is itself a fundamental problem in extracting a neat and comprehensive account of his theory.
Findings: In this study, referring to all the works of Mostafa Malekian, his views on religion in general and then on human expectations of religion and its relationship with the theory of spirituality and rationality have been extracted and described. After the description, the criticisms of his theory by some thinkers are expressed and finally, the criticisms that have been obtained during this research are presented.
Conclusion: The most important criticisms that can be raised are: the existence of some contradictions and inconsistencies, for example in the field of confrontation between truth-telling and reducing boredom, ambiguity in how to combine the existentialist approach and analytical approach and conflict of opinion and practice.
