A Comparison of the Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Approach and Group Selection Theory on Adolescent Depression Symptoms

Abstract
Purpose: This study was to compare the effectiveness of educational intervention approach based on acceptance and commitment and group theory selection approach on depressive syndrome in adolescents.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental comparison with pretest-posttest and control group. The statistical population was all the second grade students of the second year of high school in the fifth education district of Tehran province in the 98-99 academic year. The research sample consisted of 30 students who were selected by combined sampling method from simple and non-random random sampling available and voluntarily from 120 eleventh grade students and were replaced in two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental groups were trained twice a week for ten sessions of 90 minutes. The research instrument was the Hamilton Depression Scale. The obtained data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance.
Findings: It showed that there is a significant difference between the theory of choice and the approach based on acceptance and commitment in effectiveness on depression and the approach of the theory of choice has been more effective for this variable.
Conclusion: can be concluded; The theory selection method is more effective than the acceptance and commitment based approach on depressive symptoms
