Abstract
Aims Family is a social institution that is effective in the spiritual education of children.
Interventions such as mindful parenting that prevent the problems of parent-child relationships
are promising approaches to improve the quality of parent-child relationships and behavioral
and self-regulatory management strategies. The aim of this study was to determine the effect
of Iranian-Islamic mindful parenting education on the parent-child relationship and emotional
regulation in the female students’ mothers.
Materials & Methods This quasi-experimental research was carried out using a pre-test,
post-test, and follow up design with the control group. The research population included the
28 mothers of seventh-grade female students (12-13 years old) in Khomeini Shahr in 2017-
2018. The subjects were selected using purposive sampling. The subjects were randomly
classified into the experimental and control groups that each group included 14 subjects. The
subjects in the experimental and control groups were compared by evaluating the parent-child
relationship and emotional regulation scales. The experimental group received 10 sessions-9
minutes of Iranian-Islamic mindful parenting training but the control group received no
training session. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24 software through analysis of variance with
repeated measures.
Findings The mean scores of the problems of the emotional adjusting and parent-child
relationship showed a significant improvement in the experimental group compared to
the control group and in the post-test and follow-up stages compared to the pre-test stage
(p<0.05). The mean scores of the research variables in the post-test and follow-up stages were
not significantly different in the experimental group.
Conclusion The training program of Iranian-Islamic mindful parenting is effective in the
parent-child relationship and emotional regulation and this effectiveness is durable.
