Narration of the Lived Experience Alexithymia of Mothers with Children with Multiple Disabilities

Abstract
Having a disabled child imposes a heavy psychosocial burden
on the family, and the mother feels the burden more. The
purpose of this research was to narrate the lived experience of
Alexithymia of mothers with children with multiple
disabilities. The present study studied the stories of mothers of
children with multiple disabilities with a qualitative approach
and using the method of narrative analysis, and a semistructured interview technique was used to collect data. The
participants were mothers of multi-disabled children of
Shiraz's special flower school who were purposefully selected
and had at least one multi-disabled child and were willing to
talk about their experiences, the sampling process and
interviews until saturation (15 mothers) continued. The main
themes of the experiences were discovered through the
Colaizzi method. Findings from the experiences of mothers in
living with children with multiple disabilities in 9 main themes
(child behavior problems, stigma and social isolation, negative
feelings and thoughts, blaming, worry about the future,
disruption in interpersonal relationships, support from family
and others, how Dealing with the child's disability, the
mother's lack of ability to manage herself and the child) and
28 sub-themes that were coded as subgroups of the main
themes were summarized.
