Abstract
One of the important functions of waqf in the society is the
development of public health and community health. Because
maintaining cleanliness and public health is one of the
important issues in the life and social relations of every people
and nation, which is rooted in people's ancient culture and
beliefs. The expansion of endowments in the Safavid period
and the attention of the courtiers, especially the eunuchs, to the
endowment and allocation of various endowments in the
context of the health status of the society is emphasized by the
sources of this period. Because one of the actions of Khwaja
Sarayan in this period was the establishment of health facilities
including bathrooms to expand public health and community
health. Based on this, the present research, using a descriptiveanalytical method, tries to investigate the role of endowments
of Khwaja Sarayan in public health and the health of Sufi era
society. The results of the research indicate that many factors
had an impact on the health of the society during the Safavid
era. One of them was the expansion of the bathhouse and
allocation of endowments for their management and
maintenance by Khwaja Sarayan. During this period, due to
their huge income and wealth, the eunuchs allocated a part of
their income in the form of endowments for the development
of public health and community health in the form of
establishing public baths and had an important impact on the
state of urban health.
