The Effectiveness of Emotion-Based Couple Therapy Training on Emotional Literacy, Couple Compatibility, Marital Burnout and Distress Tolerance in Couples Referring to Clinics in Gonbad City

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to investigate the
effectiveness of emotion-based couple therapy training on
emotional literacy, couple compatibility, marital burnout and
distress tolerance in couples referring to Gonbad clinics.
Materials and methods: The statistical population of this research
is all couples who referred to Gonbad city clinics in 2019-2020.
Available sampling method was used to select the sample. The
sample size was considered equal to 32 people, and the subjects
were randomly divided into two experimental groups (16 people)
and control group (16 people). In this plan, the therapeutic
intervention of marital relationship enrichment training during nine
sessions is considered as an independent variable and the variables
of emotional literacy, couple compatibility, marital boredom and
distress tolerance are considered as dependent variables. The data
collection tools were emotional literacy subscale of Irani Kimiai
Family Psychological Functions Scale, Spanier Marital Adjustment
Scale (DAS), Pines Marital Disappointment Scale and Simmons and
Gaher Distress Tolerance Questionnaire.
Findings: The results showed that emotion-based couple therapy is
effective on emotional literacy, couple compatibility, marital
burnout and distress tolerance in couples visiting the clinic (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Focusing on attachment issues enabled emotionoriented couple therapy to achieve important positive results in
couple therapy.
