Abstract
Purpose: Married women who experience emotional divorce
have psychological problems that require therapeutic
interventions. The purpose of this research was the
effectiveness of teaching acceptance and commitment with an
Islamic approach on marital satisfaction, marital boredom and
quality of life in married women with emotional divorce.
Materials and methods: The research method was semiexperimental and pre-test, post-test with a control group. The
statistical population of this research included all married
women with emotional divorce who referred to counseling
centers in Tehran in 1401, and 30 people (15 people from the
experimental group and 15 people from the control group)
were selected as a sample using available sampling method.
The tools of data collection were Elson's Marital Satisfaction
Questionnaire (1998), Pines Marital Discontent (1996) and
Var et al.'s Quality of Life (1996). The intervention of teaching
acceptance and commitment with an Islamic approach was
implemented during 8 sessions of 90 minutes once a week in
the experimental group and the control group did not receive
any training. Data analysis was done with descriptive tests
(mean and standard deviation) and covariance analysis using
SPSS version 24 software. P value less than 0.05 was
considered significant.
Findings: In the experimental group, the mean and standard
deviation of marital satisfaction increased from 52.40±9.23 to
61.07±9.82 after the intervention. The mean and standard
deviation of marital boredom decreased from 65.64±8.15 to
54.17±8.24 after the intervention. Also, the mean and standard
deviation of the quality of life score increased from
59.47±8.36 to 68.46±9.67 after the intervention (p<0.01).
Conclusion: The results showed that teaching acceptance and
commitment with an Islamic approach has reduced marital
dissatisfaction and increased marital satisfaction and quality of
life. Therefore, the use of acceptance and commitment with
the Islamic approach is recommended by counselors and
therapists to reduce the psychological problems of women
with emotional divorce.
