Abstract
Purpose: This research has sought to investigate the social factors
affecting rent-seeking and provide an optimal model.
Materials and Methods: In this research, a survey method and a
researcher-made questionnaire were used. The statistical
population of this research consists of the middle managers of the
general administration of Mazandaran province. To determine the
sample size, Krejci and Morgan's table was used. Based on this,
the sample size was estimated to be 378 people and the
questionnaires were distributed in the sample population based on
random sampling method. SPSS and Lisrel statistical analysis
software were used for data analysis. The obtained results show
that there is a significant relationship between individualism, lack
of trust, the type of formal and informal relationships, the
weakness of the supervisory system, and the lack of information
transparency.
Findings: The results of the compiled model to explain the
changes in the amount of rent-seeking in the offices of
Mazandaran province show the significant impact of the external
variable of individualism and the internal variables of lack of trust,
weak monitoring system and lack of transparency of information
on rent-seeking.
Conclusion: In general, the results of the research show that with
increasing individualism, lack of trust, weak monitoring system
and lack of transparency of information, rent-seeking can be
expected to increase in the society.
