Abstract
Purpose: Cancer is one of the significant health problems in this century. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of compassion-based couple therapy on islamic life style, sexual satisfaction and sexual function of breast cancer patients.
Materials and Methods: The research method was semi-experimental and pre-test, post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this study included all Women with breast cancer of Tehran in 1401, and 30 people (15 people from the experimental group and 15 people from the control group) were selected by available sampling method. The tools of data collection were questionnaires of islamic life style (Kaviani, 2010), sexual satisfaction (Bahreynian and Yavari (2009) and Sexual Function questionnaires (Rozen , 2005). The intervention of self-compassion therapy was implemented during 8 sessions of 90 minutes twice a week in the experimental group and the control group did not receive any training. Data analysis was done with descriptive tests (mean and standard deviation) and covariance analysis using SPSS version 24 software. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Findings: The results of multivariate covariance analysis showed that In the experimental group, the mean and standard deviation of Islamic life style increased from 50.68±8.61 to 69.57±10.68 after the intervention. sexual satisfaction increased from 48.57±6.58 to 67.33±8.47 after the intervention. Also, the mean and standard deviation of the sexual function score increased from 39.27±6.67 to 51.24±8.67 after the intervention (p<0.01).
Conclusion: In women with breast cancer, self-compassion therapy can lead to an increase in Islamic lifestyle, sexual satisfaction and sexual performance. Therefore, it is suggested to hold self-compassion sessions in order to prevent and solve the problems of breast cancer patients in counseling centers.
