Abstract
Purpose: It is important to identify the factors that contribute to the anxiety of retirees. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the role of trust in God and life expectancy in predicting death anxiety in retired elderly. Materials and Methods:In a descriptive-correlational study among all retired teachers of education in Karaj in the summer of 2019, according to Gujresi and Morgan table, 196 people were selected by available sampling method from among eligible and questionnaires of trust in God Boalhari et al. 2000, Snyder et al.'s life expectancy (1991) and Templer and Ruff (1971)'s death anxiety. To analyze the data, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression test were used simultaneously using SPSS software version 24. Findings:The results showed that there was an inverse and significant relationship between trust in God (r = -0.438) with death anxiety (P <0.01), as well as the relationship between life expectancy (r = -0.363) and death anxiety. It was inverse and significant (P <0.01). Overall, reliance on God and life expectancy explained 22.4% of death anxiety. Conclusion: Proper planning with a focus on promoting trust in God and life expectancy can be helpful in improving the quality of life of retired seniors.
