Abstract
Background and Objective: One of the meaningful ways of life is to do work. In his method of semantic therapy, Viktor Frankl mentions work as one of the components of semantic therapy. Occupational therapy means doing work, creating and producing an effect, and accepting responsibility in life. This method is an important factor in mental health and a sense of meaning in an individual’s lifestyle. The teachings of Islam also refer to the importance of work and effort: “And there is nothing for man except what he strives for” (Najm: 39). Therefore, this study was organized with the aim of evaluating the components of Frankl’s occupational therapy with the teachings of Islam in lifestyle.
Methodology: In this study, an attempt has been made to examine and evaluate Viktor Frankl’s view on occupational therapy with the teachings of Islam as an example of a correct lifestyle, using a descriptive-analytical method and a comparative approach.
Findings: By examining occupational therapy from Frankl's perspective and comparing it with the teachings of Islam, the following results were obtained: Frankl has proposed components such as work and meaningfulness, work and health of mind and body, work and sincerity, work of hope, work and responsibility, and work and expertise in the discussion of work.
Conclusion: There is an alignment between Frankl's occupational therapy components and the teachings of Islam, with the difference that in the component of work and meaningfulness, the teachings of Islam have introduced the status and importance of work much higher than Frankl and in the same line as worship and jihad in the way of God. In the component of work and hope, the teachings of Islam have considered hope to be exclusive to the mercy of God, and Frankl has referred to the absoluteness of hope, and in the component of work and expertise, the teachings of Islam have emphasized the two principles of expertise and trustworthiness, while Frankl did not mention the element of trustworthiness.
