Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of emotion-based cognitive therapy on quality of life and social adjustment in mothers with mentally retarded children in Tehran in 2019. Materials and Methods: The method of this quasi-experimental study was pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all mothers with mentally retarded children in Tehran. The statistical sample of this study was 30 people who were randomly assigned to the experimental group (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The experimental group received 10 sessions of 90 minutes of emotion-oriented cognitive therapy training and the control group remained on the waiting list. Data were collected based on the WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire (2004) and Social Adjustment (Bell, 1961). Analysis of information obtained from the questionnaire was performed through spss-V22 software in two descriptive and inferential sections (analysis of covariance). Findings: The findings showed that emotion-based cognitive therapy has increased the quality of life of mothers with mentally retarded children. Also, acceptance and commitment-based therapy has increased the quality of life components (physical health, psychological health, social relations and social environment). In mothers with children with mental retardation. Conclusion: The results showed that the mean (home adjustment, health adjustment, social adjustment, emotional adjustment and job adjustment) of mothers who had mentally retarded children and underwent emotion-based cognitive therapy, increased significantly. Is. As a result, it can be said that the use of emotion-based cognitive therapy intervention is effective in increasing the quality of life and can be used to increase social adjustment of mothers with mentally retarded children.
