Investigating the Impact of Lifestyle on Contemporary Residential Design in Shiraz

Abstract
Purpose: In this article, while studying the concepts of lifestyle and housing and the influential components of lifestyle on housing, finding out how lifestyle changes affect housing design in Shiraz was pursued.
Materials and Methods: The nature and method of this research is a descriptive-analytical correlation with the purpose of discovering the relationships between economic, social, personal, technological and cultural-religious variables of lifestyle with functional, physical and conceptual characteristics in housing design. The study population was selected by cluster sampling from residents of apartments built in districts 1, 2 and 7 of Shiraz. The sample size of the research is 390 people which was done by multi-stage cluster sampling method. A researcher-made questionnaire with Cronbach's alpha of 0.88 was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariate regression using SPSS 25 software.
Findings: The results showed that there is a relationship between people's lifestyle in the contemporary era and residential architecture design. Impact determination coefficient also showed that 0.82 functional characteristics, 0.68 physical characteristics and 0.64 conceptual characteristics in residential design are determined by lifestyle components.
Conclusion: The impact of lifestyle on residential design is an issue that has been neglected by social scientists and designers. Finding the impacts of lifestyle changes on design can be a positive step in providing a suitable model for contemporary housing.
