The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Reducing Aggressive Behaviors and Improving the Quality of Marital Relationships and Treatment Satisfaction in Patients Undergoing Methadone Maintenance Treatment

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment based therapy in reducing aggressive behaviors and improving the quality of marital relationships and treatment satisfaction in patients undergoing methadone maintenance treatment.
Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The study population was all patients treated with MMT in Tehran who voluntarily referred to addiction treatment centers in Tehran for a period of six months in 1394 and were treated. Random sampling was selected and then individuals were randomly assigned to two groups of 15 people, including the experimental and control groups. Both groups were evaluated in two stages of pre-test and post-test by research questionnaires and the experimental group received treatment based on acceptance and commitment between the two stages. Data were analyzed by analysis of covariance.
Findings: The results showed that the scores of aggressive behaviors and treatment satisfaction of patients treated with MMT in the ACT training group were significantly different from the group (P <0.05).
Conclusion: Therefore, ACT training contributes to aggressive behaviors and satisfaction with the treatment of patients treated with MMT.
