The Effectiveness of Positive Psychology Interventions on Promoting Impersonal Emotion Regulation and Mindfulness in Exercise, Chronic Mental Patients

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of interventions based on positive psychology on promoting interpersonal emotion regulation and mindfulness in exercise in chronic mental patients.
Materials and Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design in two experimental and control groups. The statistical population of all chronic mental patients living in Roozbeh boarding center was under the supervision of Welfare Office in Zahedan in 1999. Using the available sampling method, 30 people were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The research instruments were Hoffman (2006) Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Zinot (2013) Mindfulness Questionnaire, and Quilliam (2003) Positive Training-Therapy Package was administered to the experimental group in 8 sessions of 90 minutes twice a week. Data were analyzed by mixed analysis of variance.
Findings: The results showed that positive psychology training on the regulation of interpersonal emotion (F = 29.52 P 00 0.001) and mindfulness in exercise (P ≥ 0.001, F = 54.78) of chronic mental patients in the post-test stage. It has been effective.
Conclusion: Therefore, positive psychology training helped patients to improve their potential abilities by having positive emotions, nobility and control, and goal-seeking, and thus improve their performance in daily activities.
