Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to model the relationship between suicidal tendencies based on primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with the mediating role of self-efficacy and meaning of life in Gachsaran teenagers.
Materials and methods: The research method was correlational. The statistical population of the research was made up of all the teenagers of Gachsaran city in the academic year of 1400-1401, in the number of 10300 people, and 380 people were selected as a sample by multi-stage cluster sampling. The research tools were suicide tendency questionnaire (Mehrabi, 2019), primary maladaptive schemas questionnaire (Yang, 1998), neo personality characteristics questionnaire (Costa and McCree, 1985), self-efficacy questionnaire (Sherer et al., 1982) and meaning of life questionnaire (Steger, 2010). Data analysis was done using Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling.
Findings: The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with suicidal tendencies (p<0.05), but there is no direct and meaningful relationship between some primary maladaptive schemas and personality traits with self-efficacy and the meaning of life (p<0.05). Also, the indirect paths of early maladaptive schemas and personality traits with suicidal tendencies with the mediating role of self-efficacy and meaning of life were significant (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, the proposed model has a suitable fit. The results of this study can be consolidated and expanded using longitudinal, comparative and experimental researches.
